Glamping at Nádúr Pods

There’s something special about stepping away from the noise of everyday life and swapping busy schedules for stars and silence. That’s exactly what we found during our epic weekend glamping at Nádúr Pods outside Killarney. This gem is nestled in the Kerry countryside and is framed by the breathtaking backdrop of the Paps of Anu.

And what a view! Waking up to those ancient, misty peaks peeking over the horizon was like being dropped into a postcard. There’s a sense of stillness here that slows everything down — in the best possible way.

Family-Friendly Freedom (and Just Enough Wildness)

As a family of five with three younger boys, finding somewhere that mixes adventure, nature, and a safe space to roam freely is no small ask. But Nádúr Pods delivered in every way. From the moment we arrived, the boys were off! Racing across the fields, climbing, and enjoying the freedom of exploring somewhere new.

There is a gigantic chair in the middle of a field (yes, you read that right) that was an absolute hit. Equal parts surreal and hilarious, it quickly became the must-do family photo op of the weekend. Think tiny humans perched like kings and queens, with a view to match. To be fair, they’re easily pleased!

There are lovely walking trails right on the doorstep, perfect for little legs as their not too long. We wandered under tree canopies, hunted for fairies (obviously), and collected sticks and stones like the treasures they are when you’re six.

Campfires & Ghost Stories

The pods themselves are cosy, cleverly designed (really great use of space and lots of storage) and super comfortable. They are a perfect balance of charm and practical comfort. There’s no TV (hallelujah!), which meant our evenings were spent exactly how I think they’re meant to be spent on weekends like this. Roasting marshmallows over the campfire, grilling burgers on the BBQ, playing board games, and telling ghost stories under blankets until late. There is also a communal covered BBQ and seating area too. This is super handy if you get caught in a shower but still want to enjoy the great outdoors and dinner al fresco.

Local Adventures Worth the Drive

While we could’ve happily stayed on-site all weekend, there are some real Killarney gems nearby that are well worth a little exploring:

  • Ross Castle – A short drive away, this 15th-century castle perched on the edge of Lough Leane is like stepping back in time. Our kids loved exploring the towers and hearing tales of ancient battles and ghostly legends (perfect fodder for that night’s campfire stories).

  • The City – Cathair Crobh Dearg – If your family is into hidden history, this ancient stone ring fort at the base of the Paps of Anu is incredible. It’s a sacred, almost otherworldly site that sparks all kinds of imagination (and questions from curious little minds). Pack wellies and prepare for a bit of a ramble!

  • Muckross House & Gardens – Another lovely option for a gentle day out, with buggy-friendly paths, lakeside walks, and loads of space to picnic.

  • Torc Waterfall – A short drive (and a short walk) brings you to this breathtaking waterfall tumbling through lush greenery. It’s the kind of place where you half expect to spot a fairy or two. Very doable with kids, and the sound of the water is pure magic.
  • Jaunting Car Ride through Killarney National Park – We treated ourselves to a traditional jaunting car ride (horse and cart) through the national park. This is always such a hit!  Our driver Morris was full of charm and local stories. The boys were delighted with the journey through woodlands and by the lakes.

And of course, Killarney town itself is a great pit stop for hot chocolates and souvenir browsing. Not forgetting a well-earned ice cream at Murphy’s.

Budget-Friendly & Memory-Rich

One of the best parts? This is a really budget-friendly option for families.  No need for fancy entertainment — just nature, time together, and the kind of freedom that lets kids truly switch off and play. It’s everything a childhood weekend should be. The pods themselves are really well set up. We had our own BBQ, fire pit and seating area. We had cups, glasses, plates and cutlery. A fridge, toaster, kettle and sink. Nádúr Pods have really thought of everything making it a very comfortable stay. The kids were delighted with the bunk beds, and our youngest slept on a very roomy pull out couch.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a wholesome, fun filled escape with your kids, one that feels adventurous without being overwhelming — I can’t recommend Nádúr Pods enough. Pack your raincoats, wellies, walking shoes and sunglasses. As my aunt once said to me ‘ ‘There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes’. We came prepared for all weathers, which helped us make the very most of our visit! Nádúr Pods is a place where kids can be kids and grownups can exhale. A place memories are made the old-fashioned way. Time spent around a campfire, under the stars, with muddy knees and full hearts.

* We were kindly invited to stay at Nádúr Pods on a PR Visit. All views are my own, and it is somewhere we will no doubt revisit again as a family.
